MATI Igurusi is located in Mbarali District at IGURUSI village, 55Km. from Mbeya Municipality along Mbeya Dar es Salaam main road. MATI Igurusi is well situated for Irrigation and Land Use Planning practical works. Around MATI Igurusi there are 5 rice irrigated schemes covering an area of about 3,700 ha. It is situated at 1100 meter above sea level with temperature ranging from 10°C – 33°C providing an excellent weather for academic concentration.
Ethnic groups around IGURUSI includes Sangu, Kinga, Nyakyusa and Bena, famous in Agriculture production. They like mixing with others and eager to learn. MATI Igurusi collaborates with other MATI’s and LITI’s, University Colleges Research departments, State farms and Agricultural Industries to make sure that what is taught is correct and appealing.
TRAINING
MATI IGURUSI is the only one Institute in the country perhaps in East and Central Africa which can offer a Diploma in Irrigation and Land Use Planning. In addition, short course programmes are undertaken to cater for small scale farmers, extension officers and middle level farm managers.

OBJECTIVES

The Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute (MATI) llonga is a government-training institute under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security It is located about 10km North-East of Kilosa Town, Morogoro region. It was established is 1972, and over the years it has grown in size and quality.

The Institute maintains formal links with Ilonga Agricultural Research Institute and Msimba Seed Farm who are next door neighbors. These and other commercial private farms around provide ideal practical sites to visit by our students to complement their theoretical knowledge.
TRAINING FEES
The Institute offers full board and lodging services, However, it can also accommodate day students at much lower rates. At present the training fees are:
(a) lnstitutional organizational sponsored Tshs. 540,000/= per year;
(b) Self or parent sponsored Tshs. 360,000/= per year;
(c) Day Student Tshs. 200,000/= per year; and

MATI Uyole is located at longitude 330 22’E and latitude 8055’S.It is about 8 Km east of Mbeya along the Tanzania Zambia highway. At an elevation of 1798 the Institute enjoys a cool climate for most part of the year. Temperature falls as low as-7°C June and July. The average annual rainfall is around 965mm. The rain season extends from November to May. Soils are volcanic in origin with a pH of 6.5.
The history of MATI Uyole dates back to 1968 when the Tanzania government decided to establish an Agriculture Training and Research joint project with the government of Nordic Countries~ An agreement was reached in 1970s, when construction works~ begin. Training activities commenced in January 1975. The first intake of in-service students was a three-month course in Agromechanization. The first diploma and certificate students were enrolled in July 1975. In March 1976 the project became a semi—autonomous parastatal organization known as Uyole Agricultural Center. The later was reconverted
to a government institution—called MARTI Uyole in 1993.MARTI Uyole is an acronym for Ministry of Agriculture Researchand Training Institute. Departmental re-organization in Ministryleading to separation of Training and Research Institute activities have necessitated changing from MARTI to MATI.MATI Uyole is undoubtedly the most modern and largest among other sister Institutions offering agricultural training in Tanzania, with capacity of accommodating around 500 resi- dent students.

Short Courses
Short courses may be offered either in field or on—campus although courses conducted at the institute have proved to be more popular. They are of one to two weeks’ duration and are aimed at either periodically up-dating agricultural skills of field workers or training farmers in various aspects of agricul-tural and livestock production.
The course are organized in specific modules, tailored to the requirements of the target group, in specific courses such as Agroforestry, organic farming, production of various field crops, vegetables and fruit production, agricultural chemicals and the environment, biometry and plant protection. Others include dairy goat husbandry, dairy cattle husbandry, im-proved local chicken raring, and preparation of weaning food,gender issues, enterpreneurship, milk processing and training of trainers. Various donor agencies, NGO, private companies and individuals sponsor these short courses.
Admission and Applications
Students admitted for certificate are either primary school leavers with a working experience of at least five years in agricultural related activities, having attended an agricultural course of at least one year and passed a pre-entry examina-tion or Form IV leavers with passes in science subjects e.g. biol-ogy, chemistry and or Agriculture science. Pass in English is an advantage as it is the medium for instruction.
Diploma students must either posses certificate in any agricul-tural and/or livestock-related field or must have completed advanced school education with at least a principal level pass in any science subject
- MATI - KATC, Moshi
Kilimanjaro Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) is one of few institutes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security offering specialized short courses in agriculture, with special emphasis on irrigated rice farming improvement. The centre aims at enhancing the technical capabilities of field personnel and rice key farmers with respect to irrigated rice cultivation through practical training and field tours.
With ever increasing world population, the need to increase food production, especially in developing countries, can not be over emphasized. Rice is the staple food for most Asian and some African countries, including Tanzania where it is the second most important cereal after maize. However, a great potential for increased rice production in Tanzania is still untapped. Rice producers, majority of them are smallholder farmers need to be trained about modem rice production techniques and the need to use high yielding varieties in order to earn more income.
Great efforts have been made by the Tanzanian Government with assistance from the Government of Japan (through Japan International Cooperation Agency – JICA) to set up magnificent training facilities at KATC Moshi for rice farmers and field personnel. The Centre is well equipped and staffed with qualified and experienced trainers in the fields of irrigated rice cultivation, extension, water management and rice mechanization. The Ministries responsible for Agriculture in Tanzania and neighboring countries of Kenya, Zambia and Malawi recognize KATC Moshi as the centre for excellence in these fields and are eager to utilize if fully to ensure that the region becomes self sufficient in rice.
Location
KATC is situated in Chekereni village, 17 km. South East of Moshi town in Kilimanjaro region. It also maintains an office in the Kilimanjaro Industrial and Agricultural Development Building, adjacent to the Regional Administration Building in Moshi town for convenience of receiving visitors and communications to the outside world. KATC Chekereni compound is conveniently placed in the heart of Lower Moshi Irrigation Scheme which provides the most suitable training ground for all courses offered by the Centre.
Facilities
The facilities at KATC Chekereni compound include: Two hostels with 30 spacious rooms combined with dining and kitchen facilities. The total capacity is sixty participants at a time; Well equipped lecture rooms and laboratories; Information Unit comprising of a library and reading room with most up to date literature and data on irrigated rice cultivation and related topics; A well equipped audio-visual materials production unit; Secretarial and printing services which include binding of materials; A training machinery workshop; An animal power unit with trained water buffaloes, donkeys, oxen and ducks; A training farm for practical demonstrations; A well equipped meteorological station; A modem post harvest facility and a display room with a wide collection of real materials and data on irrigated rice cultivation and Variety of low cost grain storage units.

National Sugar Institute (NSI) is one of the best and leading vocational institution in the country engaged in training of technical artisans and technicians. It was officially opened on 8th August 1981 with the aim of imparting skills to trainees in cane production, harvesting, sugar processing, sugar factory engineering, farm machinery and implement engineering, basic crafts and general management skills.
Location:
The NSI is located in Kilombero district in Morogoro region. It is situated about 157 km from Morogoro town, 350 km from Dar es Salaam. The Institute is closely sandwitched by Kidatu National Grid Hydropower,
Kilombero Sugar Factory, Udzungwa Natural Forest Reserve and Sanje Water Falls.

National sugar Institute has a fine reputation for its wide range of vocational and specialized skills courses that are available to answer specific training needs. NSI embraces different field of study in engineering

The Ministry of Agriculture and food security Training Institute, MATI Mtwara, is one of the nine Agricultural Training Institutes in the country charged with the responsibility of imparting technical Agricultural knowledge to students, extension workers, farmers as well as conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) courses in related fields.
Location
MATI Mtwara is located 13km south of Mtwara town and 6km Southwest of Mtwara airport at an altitude of 120m above sea level. The institute is located at Naliendele village
which is along the Mtwara-Newala road.
Training activities
Basically the Institute is conducting long and short courses pertaining to Agriculture and Livestock production.
The long courses Include:
1. A two year certificate course in Crop Production (CCP).
2. certificate course for private candidates under modular system of Instruction.
Short Courses Include:-
A. Farmers training courses/seminars
B. Retraining of Extension workers
C. Retraining of Retrenches
D. Training of Trainers (ToT)
The modular system of instruction for the certificate course in agriculture for private candidates. The certificate course in Agriculture production being conducted at MATI Mtwara is geared towards producing competent and confident graduands capable of employing themselves in the fields of Agriculture production. The modular form of instruction is taught for a period of sixteen weeks.
Duration of the courses
MATI Mtwara has developed three modules. Each module is covered within sixteen weeks and there are two modules in a year with similar duration. Each module is independent and a full certificate is awarded after successful completion. However a student is at liberty to study all the modules depending on the need and interest of individual learner.
Training approach
A variety of teaching methods are used including lectures, group meetings discussions, exercised field visits, method and result demonstrations.

Applicant should have a minimum of Form Four Secondary School Education with good passes in the following subjects:-

Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute Tumbi (MATI TUMBI) was re-established on September 2003. It is a government Institution under the ministry of agriculture, food and cooperatives in the department of Training. The Institute registration number is REG/ANE/020 under the provisions of the National council for technical education Act .NO.9OF 1997.
The Institute delivers innovative, educational programs that develop career-ready graduates through intensive, practical learning and skill enhancement in agricultural, environmental, and applied technologies. Certificate programs run withing 24 months in length and Diploma programs run 12 months.
